Experience Matters and We have it!

Orthopedic stem cell therapy is one of the most exciting new advancements in all of modern medicine. Treatment of joint pain and injuries appears to be on the verge of a revolution and here at South Valley OrthoMed, serving Salt Lake County, Utah, and beyond, we are the emerging leader in this new technology!

There are a lot of misleading headlines and downright scams involving stem cell therapy. Some practitioners are offering stem cell therapy for treatments that will never work, and many practitioners are not even qualified to provide this procedure.

Our medical provider, John D. Sonnenberg, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. With over 40 years of experience in surgery and healthcare, Dr. Sonnenberg is the real deal.

Dr. Sonnenberg also served as a combat surgeon for the U.S. Army, completing tours of duty in both Afghanistan and Iraq. To read more about his experience in the Army, click here.

Stem cells are, in short, nature’s original construction crew. Naturally produced by the human body, stem cells possess the incredible ability to change and adapt into more specialized cell types. Think of them as growth, or developmental cells, still in their infancy. With stem cell therapy these multi-talented cells are injected into a specific, damaged area of the body. The cells are then able to grow and reproduce themselves. They mature and contribute to their surrounding environment, particularly in repairing damaged tissue. When stem cells enter damaged tissue, they receive signals that instruct them to differentiate. Damaged tendons, ligaments, bones, cartilage, muscle and even damaged skin, are all treatable with stem cells!

When it comes to joint pain, traditional treatments such as cortisone shots do not offer long-term healing potential. But by stimulating nature’s building blocks, orthopedic stem cell therapy can switch on and greatly increase the body’s natural healing capabilities. This can then provide long-term pain relief, without requiring steroid injections or surgery.

Stem Cell Therapy

How is South Valley OrthoMed Different?

Stem cell therapy is one of the most promising new advancements in joint pain relief. Dr. Sonnenberg is able to offer the latest and most advanced technology in orthopedic stem cell treatments because of his masterful skills and experience.

Because Dr. Sonnenberg is a surgeon, South Valley OrthoMed does not purchase amniotic (or other) stem cells from a third-party. When stem cells are purchased elsewhere, it drives up the cost (for the patient) and dramatically reduces the effectiveness of those stem cells. This practice of purchasing third-party stem cells is the reason there is confusion around stem cell therapy and its efficacy.

Dr. Sonnenberg obtains stem cells from the patient through a bone marrow aspiration. The patient’s own stem cells are more effective, more alive, and there is no risk of rejection. This might sound painful, but most patients report minimal discomfort. The stem cells are then spun right here in our office which takes about 30 minutes. After that, Dr. Sonnenberg is able to inject the stem cells into the treatment area. The entire stem cell therapy procedure only takes about one hour.

We’ve had patients fly in from Nevada, Hawaii, Idaho, and many other states just to receive stem cell therapy from Dr. Sonnenberg!

What Areas are Treated?

When it comes to joint pain, traditional treatments such as cortisone shots do not offer long-term healing potential. But by stimulating nature’s building blocks, orthopedic stem cell therapy can switch on and greatly increase the body’s natural healing capabilities. This can then provide long-term pain relief, without requiring steroid injections or surgery.

Wondering if You’re Too Old for Stem Cell Therapy?

Age is of no concern with orthopedic stem cell therapy. Even though the body’s natural production rate of stem cells slows as we age, it never comes to a full stop. Stem cells are always being freshly produced by the body, rather than having aged along with a patient throughout their years. By collecting and injecting a concentrated amount of these naturally produced stem cells, they then activate the human body’s natural regenerative process. At South Valley OrthoMed, we employ time-tested injection techniques to deliver these stem cells directly to damaged tissues.

No Pressure Free Consultation

The best part of our stem cell therapy is that we have had an 80-90% success rate among our patients. This is because we offer a free, no-pressure, no-obligation consultation to meet with Dr. Sonnenberg to find out whether you are a good candidate for stem cell therapy. Dr. Sonnenberg is committed to providing quality treatments to all of his patients and if he does not believe stem cell therapy will work for you, he will tell you just that. And because he is a physician, he often has alternative suggestions for treatment with good chances of success. Oftentimes Dr. Sonnenberg is able to perform these other treatments but if not, he will be able to refer you to someone who can.

Does Insurance Cover Stem Cell Therapy?

One of the most common questions that we get asked regarding stem cell therapy is whether it is covered by health insurance. As we all know, insurance companies can be very selective about the treatments that they cover. There have been many successful healthcare treatments in the past that were not covered by health insurance, and because stem cell therapy is not-yet categorized as FDA-cleared, health insurance does not cover the cost of treatment.
