What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is cosmetic procedure designed to reduce the visibility of facial blemishes like acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles. The popularity of microneedling has been rapidly growing in recent years, but the technique having been around for decades. However, the continued refinement of the technology and the introduction of tools like the Skin Stylus have fueled that rapid growth. The goal of clearer skin is now as accessible as ever to patients throughout Salt Lake City, and the rest of Utah, with microneedling at South Valley OrthoMed.
How Does Microneedling Work?
When skin is damaged, collagen and elastin are two of the healing elements that the body produces to heal itself. During a microneedling session, small punctures are created at the surface level of the skin using the Skin Stylus. These tiny punctures trigger the body’s typical response to skin damage. Naturally produced collagen and elastin migrate to the damaged area and act as a scaffold in carrying out the healing function. The minute punctures created during the procedure require very little healing on their own, thus allowing this rush of new and improved collagen and elastin to flood into the surrounding area creating a more radiant facial aura. Microneedling can indeed turn back the clock.
How Can Microneedling Help You?
Our skin takes a constant beating throughout day-to-day life. Whether it be through direct impact during any given day, or the toll of the mid-day Utah summer sun, the skin seems to never get much needed shelter.
The skin is also very resilient, always managing to heal itself from those minor damages like cuts or sunburns. But gradual wear and tear that occurs over time does not trigger the same healing response, rather more like a scarring response. And here is precisely where microneedling excels, triggering the skin to rejuvenate itself above and beyond what is immediately needed. The visibility of acne scars or skin wrinkles can then be reduced due to that additional healing effect, that rejuvenation.
By proper follow-up with skin treatments as advised by our Master Aesthetician, patients can begin seeing and feeling initial results after just one treatment, and significant, even dramatic, improvements by the third or fourth microneedling session.
