John D Sonnenberg, MD–Orthopedic Surgeon and Medical Consultant
Dr Sonnenberg is a board certified orthopedic surgeon and fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He trained in general orthopedics and subspecialized in shoulder and hand surgery. He practiced orthopedics for 35 years in Chicago and has recently relocated to the Salt Lake Valley.
After graduating from Brigham Young University, Dr Sonnenberg attended medical school in Chicago at the University of Illinois as an Edmund James Independent Scholar. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society while at the U of I. He completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Pittsburgh mentoring under the legendary Dr. Albert B. Ferguson. Dr Sonnenberg received specialty hand surgery training in the University of California system.
In addition to his civilian orthopedic activities, Dr Sonnenberg served as a combat surgeon for the US Army. He completed tours of duty in both Afghanistan and Iraq and was retired from the service with the rank of Lt Colonel. His Combat Medic Badge for service under fire is one of his most cherished distinctions.
In his spare time Dr Sonnenberg enjoys playing ice hockey, and trying to keep up with two grandsons who play hockey for Olympus and Brighton high schools. He also enjoys opera and theater with his wife Theresa, and spending time with their nine children and fifteen( and counting) grandchildren, most of whom live in the Salt Lake area.
Katie Marshall has been working as a Physician Assistant for 20 years in the areas of internal medicine/allergy, and military brain injury. In 2009, she completed her Master’s Degree in Environmental and Occupational Health at George Washington University in Washington, DC. She enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, particularly if that time includes some of her favorite hobbies of hiking, skiing, and running.
Cherie is a veteran to the Medical Weight Loss industry, having worked several years in helping patients achieve their weight loss goals. Her wealth of experience in the medical world brings an organization and motivation to the entire rest of the staff, which naturally spills over into improved care for all of our patients.
Jenee is a Salt Lake native who pulls double-duty in our office, serving as our weight loss consultant and as a certified Master Esthetician. Jenee graduated from Olympus High School and then attended The Paul Mitchell School for her aesthetics training. She is certified in facial injection therapy (Xeomin) and microneedling techniques, including PRP supplementation. Jenee has two very active daughters which keep her exceptionally busy in her spare time.
Matt is a Chicago native who relocated to Salt Lake. He attended Utah State University, graduating in 2011 with a bachelors degree in Journalism and Communications. Matt was also a finalist for the university’s Man of the Year award after four years of running an independent sports publication that earned brief mention in USA Today, Sports Illustrated, ESPN.com, and The New York Times. He has worked extensively in digital marketing, and recently interned as an Orthopedic Office Manager.
Matt also has been a two-time competitor on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior, competing in 2014 and 2015, and currently aiming for a comeback to the program in 2018. In his spare time he plays ice hockey and is a dedicated YouTuber to his continually growing online following.
Kelsee has more than eight years of experience working in health and wellness. Born and raised here in the Salt Lake Valley, she completed her associates degree at Salt Lake Community College in 2013. She is truly passionate about helping others succeed and is actively involved with the community. She taught Zumba for 4 years and recently discovered her new love for yoga, of which she is nearing completion of her 200-hour yoga teacher training. Her passion for health and fitness is something she has made a lifestyle and loves helping others get back on track with their own healthier lifestyles. Fitness is a huge part of her life but when she isn’t teaching or working out, she enjoys traveling and getting as much sunshine as possible.
